Neuroscience and Democracy
DemocraShe uniquely incorporates brain science into its curriculum to further the work of participating in a democracy.
Why?
To preserve our democracy, we must give people the skills to deal with the threat-based limbic system (where a lot of America is stuck), and allow people to access their more rational prefrontal cortex.
We can’t just hope that the temperature of our nation's discussions cools down, we must give people evidence-based practices that research shows will allow them to do so: the work of DemocraShe.
DemocraShe is the only organization that is coming at this from the perspective of trying to help young citizens’ brains soothe the threat-based limbic system and move back into a rational prefrontal cortex that can stay grounded in difficult discussions - placing young women from different states (red, blue & purple) together in online workshops that allow civic discussion while training the brain how to do so with regulation.
We are at a tipping point as a nation: either we will move more toward vitriol and violence or we will start investing in our young people with tangible, brain research skills proven to fundamentally make a shift in our civic discourse.
