Our Programs

DemocraShe helps young women grades 9-12 build evidence-based resilience and practical leadership skills alongside the public policy know-how they need to engage more deeply in their communities and start on a path to elected office. All programs take place on zoom unless otherwise noted.

DemocraShe programs include:

Flagship Program

DemocraShe’s signature offering. Over 10 weeks (two hours per week, totaling 20 hours) each Fall and Spring, high school girls receive intensive training in small, supportive, peer-led online national cohorts. These DemocraSheroes:

  • Learn evidence-based brain science skills to overcome the external and internal barriers on a woman’s leadership journey to successfully realize both her immediate unique vision and future positions in civic leadership and elected office

  • Learn civics and advocacy skills to become effective, informed civic leaders and public speakers, culminating in “DemocraShe Congress” where “Congresswomen” sponsor, co-sponsor and pass legislation based on their unique lived experience

  • Harness the unique opportunity of zoom to connect a national social capital network of high school girls around the country, participating in a cross-cultural exchange of learning the issues facing girls in different states

  • Expand their networks and gain extra support by being paired with adult female mentors

  • Every graduate leaves with a three-year “LaunchPad” action plan of the next concrete steps they will take toward making an immediate impact in their local community - and the brain science skills they will use to support them as they encounter external or internal difficulties that might knock them off their path

  • Every girl is paid a $15/hr stipend to participate. Not only do teenage girls immediately learn that their time has value, the stipend ensures every girl can join regardless of income or background - recognizing that American leadership is strongest when it reflects all of its people.

Leadership Team

The Leadership Team is made up of graduates of the flagship program between the ages of 15 - 22. DemocraShe promotes from within to give teenage girls the immediate experience of leadership. These young women:

  • Help create, update, and advise our curriculum, ensuring the critical input of young women in workshops training young women

  • Co-facilitate all workshops, creating an empowering environment where DemocraSheroes see inspiring leaders that look just like them. She can’t be what she can’t see.

  • Represent DemocraShe in the community

  • Practice a range of skills like peer leadership, collaboration, mentorship, time management, public speaking and more.

  • Peer leaders are paid $600 per semester
